How To Choose Eyeglasses

How To Choose Eyeglasses

Often the first thing people notice about you is your face. If you wear eyeglasses then your glasses will make up a good part of the first impression you make. To choose eyeglasses that suit you, follow these steps.

Start with your prescription. Most eyeglasses made today will work for any prescription but if you have a very strong prescription you might need to check. Wire frames or half frames are not always available with thick lenses.

Consider your needs. Once upon a time glasses provided only a few choices with clear, coke bottle thick lenses. Those days are over. Now you have options of lens thickness and shape as well as frames in plastic, metal wire and just about any color you can imagine. You can also select from lenses with bi and tri focal prescriptions or lenses that transition from clear to dark in the sunshine. Consider your needs before selecting a style.

Coordinate with the shape of your face. When choosing the shape of eyeglass frames, the shape of your face needs to be part of your decision. Fit the size of your face first so the glasses are proportional and cover your eyes not half of your face. Sharp triangular or square shaped jaw lines are best softened with a rounded or oblong frame. While round faces look better with square or angular frames that sharpen the look. Keep the look from overwhelming a large or diamond shaped face with rimless style frames.

Wear your personality. Once you have a general shape that will work for your face there are still hundreds of options to choose from. This is where you can let your personality shine. Choose a color that suits your style more metallic and neutral for a conservative style versus dramatic color, shape or pattern for a more creative personality. You might consider getting different eyeglasses for the office than for your casual weekend personality. Experiment and have a little fun selecting frames that suit your personality.

Experiment for fit. Sometimes the only way to choose eyeglasses is to try them on for fit and look. Once you have three or four looks you like, try them on to experiment. With the frames fitted securely onto your face, spend some time in front of a mirror looking at the glasses from several angles. Turn your head to the sides and downward to make sure the glasses fit on your ears and nose, dont rub anywhere or slip off your face.

Your eyeglasses make a statement long before you open your mouth. Help them make a true statement about who you are by choosing the right frames that fit your face, your style and your personality.

How I Use Sites like Ebay to Market My Handmade Jewelry

How I Use Sites like Ebay to Market My Handmade Jewelry

My hobby as a silversmith keeps me busy all year long. At Christmas time though, I work several hours a day to try to make gifts for people who want to purchase handmade jewelry for their friends and family. I call it my Santas elf work! My work is signed, original, and priced so that it will sell practically as soon as it is made. I have not ever had to have my work sit and gather dust in somebody elses shop on consignment. I dont have to pay huge prices for table space at trade shows where I might sit there all day and not recover my booth fee! I get paid when the piece is sold. If someone wants my jewelry in their shop, they pay me upfront. I would much rather be in the studio making another piece of jewelry than sitting at a booth all day trying to make a sale. I dont mass produce my jewelry so therefore I cant afford to not have access to it 24 hours a day. Occasionally there is a lull in sales and I suspect that I have saturated the local market with the current item. That is when I turn to the on line marketplaces like eBay and Etsy to show my work to a wider audience. While it is true that eBay is a tough place to sell jewelry, it doesnt change the fact that it makes good advertising sense to post an item in order to get prospective customers to seek out my website and possibly contact me for custom work. Sometimes it doesnt cost anything to list an item on eBay. Etsy charges a small fee to post. I take the opportunity to list my jewelry whenever I get word that eBay is offering free listing days.

I make sure that my website is mentioned in the auction, listing, contact, and about me page. Also, I encourage prospective buyers to contact me for more pictures and to ask questions. At the bottom of my personal email messages is my custom signature that has a hot link to my eBay ME page that ultimately takes the person to my auction, or listing. I write articles and reviews for eBay and am now in the top 3000 reviewer rank. When I write a guide or review for eBay, I add a link to my website so that my jewelry can be viewed, even if the guide or review I am writing doesnt have anything to do with jewelry or silversmithing. My business card has my eBay username on it in addition to my other contact information. It is NOT EVER a good idea for a hobby gold or silversmith to put the address where they live anywhere thieves might see it such as a business card. I know i dont welcome the thought of someone showing up at my house looking for my silver or gold supplies! Having an auction site or listing is a safer and cheaper way to promote gemstones and precious metals if you dont have a store with high security systems.

I sell a piece of jewelry every once in a blue moon on eBay, but that doesnt stop me from using their site to promote and showcase my work. Once someone buys a piece of jewelry from me, they generally buy another piece soon thereafter. My best customers bring me more customers. It is useful to have something on line that is current and can be looked at immediately no matter where my loyal customers find themselves. I have had folks call me from another state while vacationing to order something that someone is admiring at the moment. With a eBay auction spot, it is possible to make the quick sale through paypal and ship the jewelry that day or the very next day. It is certainly possible that the piece would get there before the loyal customer returns home from wherever they are calling from.

I have been silversmithing for almost 30 years. I have found that the best and fastest way to sell my work is right off my neck! I know that sounds odd, but I wear my jewelry. People see it, and they ask about it, and then they want it. That could be at the grocery store, a meeting, or a performance. When someone stops me to tell me they like my ring, or my necklace, I always say thanks I made that. If they dont want to buy it right then and there, I hand them a business card. When they return home to their computer, they can go to my website which has a link to my eBay. If they dont see the item there, they can call me and I can post an auction especially for my buyer anytime of day or night. That is one of the many beauties and benefits of being an eBay seller.

I find that eBay is a much better and safer method of presenting my work than selling consignment. Consignment in my opinion, just makes a shop owners display case look pretty. But shops close, and shopkeepers are too busy sometimes to contact the jeweler and tell them they just made a sale. and then what? Why should the jeweler be the only persons work in the shop that doesnt get paid until after the sale or long after the sale in most instances? Everything else in the shop is purchased upfront. Why should the jeweler be the last one to get their money? Why should the jeweler be the only artist that has products in the store taking the risk?

eBay and Etsy are a way to have an on line display case without having to worry about not having access to my own work. Chances are that if my work were in a display case in some other town, my prospective buyer wouldnt follow through and go there. I dont have to do the 70% /30% split with the shop owner. Why should I have to give somebody else so much money for something they didnt make. Ebay, paypal, and Etsy take a small percentage of the final sale it is true. But not nearly as much as consignment which can sometimes be as high as60% 40%! I always price my auctions and listings a little higher than a live sale to reflect the shipping cost, paypal fee, and eBay cut.

Using eBay to promote my jewelry hobby has been a major stepping stone that could lead to a small business someday. If you are considering advertising your jewelry hobby or business why not take advantage of the worlds largest marketplace in addition to local advertising and personal sales?

This summer my handmade Native American Eagle Feathers are still a hot item. I started making and selling them at Christmas time for a customer that buys them every Christmas to give away as Christmas gifts. Friends saw the project while I was making and filling the order, and I got orders from that original order. It snowballed this year pun intended! I have worked steadily since December making these. I even made some copper ones for contrast to my collar of feathers that I wear every time I leave the house. Each feather is handmade, unique, etched, and signed. Sometimes I add a bead or two on the stem. I am always willing to custom make something to fit the person, or modify a piece so it is the perfect gift for the occasion. Right now, I am adding gemstone beads into the mix making the feathers the perfect birthday present no matter what month. I was so busy filling orders this winter that I forgot to post one up for auction on eBay. I totally forgot about Etsy. Right now I have one of my feathers up on both eBay and Etsy. Hopefully I can remember to keep an auction up at all times. It is a great way to offer my feathers to a wider audience and for very little upfront cost.

Published by Concha Castaneda

I was born in Bowling Green Ohio. Help Mom with Her Jewelry

Help Mom with Her Jewelry

If you have been making jewelry for any length of time, then that probably means your familys jewelry boxes at some point or other become pretty full; this includes mom, of course. Just what else is there to make her? Are you burnt out on ideas for mom this Mothers Day? Making jewelry is obviously one way to use your jewelry designing skills to do something special for mom, but there are a few other ideas I can think of as well beside making mom jewelry:

Help mom by cleaning her current collection of jewelry, including pieces you may not have made for her. You can mix up some Electrolytic Cleaning Solution and get it sparkling for her pretty quickly just by using some basic ingredients you may even have already in your kitchen.

Whip up a batch of Super Cleaner to clean up moms jewelry and then whip up a second batch to leave with her for future polishing needs. Just make sure you label the jar you leave it in so she knows what it is.

If mom lives too far away for a trip to clean her jewelry for her, consider getting her an Ionic Jewelry Cleaner so she can clean her jewelry whenever she wants.

After you have cleaned up her jewelry collection, you may also want to consider doing some jewelry repair work for her. This may be especially important if you are like me and have been giving mom jewelry for many years because your skills become better and better. That necklace you made for mom 10 years ago may need a jewelry make over now that you have better wire skills or have finally mastered closing crimp beads.

Gold Lady Jewelers Wickford

Gold Lady Jewelers Wickford

Gold Lady Jewelers, located at One Brown Street in downtown Wickford, Rhode Island, is not a very large store; being about the size of a lot of the jewelers stores in shopping malls, but it is a whole lot more charming than something that is a franchise. The Gold Lady is a bonified small village store staffed by local people and the owners know a lot of their customers by name. As a bonus, when it gets crowded downtown during the busy tourist season, the Gold Lady is a serene refuge from all the madness of the sidewalks and it is always invitingly air conditioned. Gold Lady Jewelers has been in business since 1980, and had its beginnings in custom design work and repairs. Charles Phillips, master craftsman, designer, and stone setter, has been with the store since its opening. He will very happily confer with customers over a jewelry design and create a one of a kind piece. Mr. Phillips oversees several dedicated and meticulous craftsmen, which allows all the work to be carried out right on the premises.

Another aspect of the jewelry trade that the Gold Lady is involved in is that of estate jewelry. There are many fine examples of estate jewels in their display case for customers to view and possibly purchase. The display rotates often, offering an interesting window into the past and hinting at the possibilities of new family traditions that could begin with an antique watch, for example, as an heirloom.

Of course, no jewelry store would be complete without a display of engagement and wedding rings. On the Gold Lady Jewelers Web page for bridal diamonds, it says, When only perfect is good enough. Charles Phillips, who is mentioned above, spent nearly three decades gathering the most ideal diamonds he could find. His resources include many of the worlds foremost stone cutters and diamond importers. Because of his extensive experience and knowledge in the field, he can purchase the best diamonds having the proportions known in the trade as the Ideal Cut. On that Web page there is a link to Parade Designs, which offers some breathtaking rings, brooch, and necklace collections.

Forecast for Contemporary Jewelry Design 2009 And OnwardA few predictions as to where contemporary jewelry is headed from 2009 onward. Friendship Bracelets Remain Popular Jewelry

Friendship Bracelets Remain Popular Jewelry

Exchanging gifts and tokens of affection is something women love to do between friends. From the time of early girlhood long into adulthood women celebrate the emotional bonds of camaraderie in a variety of ways. Perhaps one of the more enduing symbols for friends is the friendship bracelet, traditionally a handmade knotted band made of embroidery floss or thread.

The Original Friendship Bracelet

A form of macram, the friendship bracelet not surprisingly has been a fixture of summer camp crafts for decades. How many countless young girls crafted and exchanged a friendship bracelet with her camper buddies? These simple half hitch knot bracelets have served as powerful tokens of affections between these new formed friendships forged through summer adventures together.

In other cultures where material goods are scarce, such as South America where the friendship bracelet is believed to have originated, the presentation of such a gift to someone truly represents the givers affections and appreciation of a special bond. The bracelets knots and tight weaving denote the durability of the friendship, making it an effective way to express the power and beauty of such a relationship.

According to tradition, the bracelet is worn until the threads wear out and the friendship bracelet falls off naturally. Upholding the tradition allows the recipient to honor the friend who has created the bracelet with hard work and love. To remove the bracelet before it has fallen off naturally would indicate a break in the friendship. A variation of this tradition holds that a wish will be granted to the recipient of the friendship bracelet after it has fallen off naturally.

The simpler styles of friendship bracelets require the use of three to six strands of the brightly colored thread, which are then knotted and securely tied around the wrist of a friend. The popular candy stripe style will use as few as three or as many as 40 threads, depending on the pattern and thickness desired. Other popular patterns include the bordered chevron, broken ladder and Chinese staircase. While the quintessential friendship bracelet is made from colorful embroidery floss, bracelets can also be fashioned from hemp, beads, leather, and wire.

The Friendship Bracelet Grows Up

While the classic friendship bracelet is still popular with pre teen girls, women can relive their youth but with much more class. Friendship bracelets are now being designed from leather, linen, and a combination of metals with gold, beads and charms. Another trend in bracelets comes from a young Los Angeles entrepreneur who combines lucky karma beads and gemstones in her bracelets, which are worn by Hollywood A listers.

Italian inspired charm friendship bracelets can be created with more than 500 personalized links in 18K gold, gemstone or cubic zirconia. The creations allow friends to personalize bracelets with symbols, letters or words by adding additional links.

The Danish inspired charm bracelet has served as an inspiring way to celebrate friendships across the world. These sterling silver or gold bracelets have taken the jewelry world by storm since they were introduced to the American market just a few years ago.

With hundreds of charms and beads available from which to choose, friends can create a totally unique design befitting the wearers personality. Charms and beads are designed to mark a special occasion, evoking a sentimental record of ones life. Therefore, no two bracelets are alike. Fashioned from 14K gold, sterling silver and Murano glass, these beautiful beads and charms are attached on threaded sections which allow them the swivel and move for a dazzling effect.

Each year on the first Sunday of August, Friendship Day is celebrated across the world. The day, dedicated in the honor of friends, includes the exchange of special gifts, including friendship bracelets. From simple embroidery floss inspired creations to charm bracelets bedecked with gorgeous beads and charms, the friendship bracelet still fulfills girlish whims and honors a womans closest bonds.

Etsy Interview with Sea Glass Designs

Etsy Interview with Sea Glass Designs

First off, tell me a little about yourself. Bruce and I have been married for 44 years and have lived in Connecticut for most of our life. We both retired about 8 years ago from our 9 to 5 job, sold most of our belongings, moved aboard our 37 foot sailboat Orient Express and headed south. We spent two years traveling on our boat exploring many new places along the way.

We fell in love with an island in the northern Bahamas called Elbow Cay. This is where we now spend the winter months. We are still living on our boat during the winter, but in the summer we return to our home in Connecticut. At home we have luxuries that we dont have on the boat like a dishwasher, washing machine, flush toilets ice maker, and most important a fully equipped art studio. However, we still manage to make a lot of our jewelry while cruising on our boat in tight quarters.

Bruce and I both love to walk the beach and have collected tons of beautiful sea glass. The Bahamas have abundance of old and rare shards. Much of the sea glass comes from shipwrecks off the reefs around the island during the 1800s and is still washing ashore today.

Bruce started to complain that we were going to sink the boat with all of our sea glass. My daughter decided that I needed to do something with all the sea glass. She gave me a beginner jewelry kit for Christmas as a way to solve the problem. We began making some simple wire wrapped jewelry and got totally hooked. When we returned to the States that year, we enrolled in metalsmithing classes. Both the classes and the community of jewelry artist we have met have been instrumental in helping us grow in our designs.

When did you originally find Etsy?

Our daughter was the first to recommend it to us. When we got back from the Bahamas last year, we also saw a segment on Good Morning America praising the site as a place for artist to sell their goods. We set up our shop shortly after that. We have been members of the Etsy community for a little over a year now.

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

We have always sold locally whether in the Bahamas or Connecticut. Etsy has opened the door to not only new customers in the United States but customers around the world. The site is so unique. There is nothing else out there that brings so many sellers and buyers together.

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

What I like most about the website, is the ease in using it both for the seller and customer. It is like they have thought of everything to make it user friendly. In addition, I have gotten so much support from both Etsy staff and from the community of sellers. The website not only provides a place to sell, it provides virtual labs and networking opportunities. The Newbie Chat and Shop Critiques are invaluable to the new sellers.

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

The sea glass is the inspiration. Each piece of sea glass is unique in itself. We study each shard and decide what can we create that will best show off this treasure.

What is your favorite piece youve created and why?

My favorite piece is one of my husbands new designs. Sea Glass is often referred to as Mermaids tears. Bruce has created a bezel in the shape of a teardrop. He has place three pieces of sea glass and a sterling silver design in the bezel. He calls the piece Mermaids Teardrop.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

When we joined Etsy our goal was to increase sales. Now that I have been a member for a year, I have learned there is so much more to Etsy. We have found we have been able to share our sea glassing stories with other members of the sea glass community on Etsy. I hope that we will continue to connect and network with other sellers. I learn so much from the community and have enjoyed watching it grow. There seems to be something new going on everyday on the website.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

We are always working on new creations. Right now we are adding on a new line of anklets. We are experimenting with a number of designs. Hopefully, they will be up on Etsy by the end of the month.

Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers?

Earring Ideas for Child Jewelry Gifts

Earring Ideas for Child Jewelry Gifts

To ensure safety as well as quality, childrens jewelry is best made from natural materials and pure metal alloys. Sterling silver and gold alloys that are14K or higher are excellent choices.

Fittings should be smooth to the touch and fit securely. Jewelry elements for children, especially young children, should not hang loose or protrude. Long necklaces or dangly pieces are not safe. Also, small charms or beads may pose a chocking hazard to smaller children and should be well secured or avoided altogether.

When shopping, examine the piece closely. Look to see that craftsmanship is smooth and even, and that clasps are secure and close tightly. If there is enameling, be sure the enamel coating is well applied, evenly coated, and not scraped or chipped. It should have a rich, lustrous appearance and feel smooth and glossy to the touch. Finally, a jewelry pieces country of origin may sometimes give you a clue as to the pieces overall integrity.

Childrens Jewelry Can Last a Lifetime or Remain a Sentimental ReminderIf longevity is an issue, look for jewelry that may grow with a child. Gemstone or pearl stud earrings may be worn forever. Moreover, gems may be reset into other jewelry. A necklace with pendant or locket may be swapped out later for a longer length necklace, or a pendant may be added to a larger scale charm bracelet. Cable charms and beads may be moved to longer length cables or chains.

Still, longevity isnt always a factor. After all, there is something wonderfully sweet and nostalgic about saving a long outgrown, personally engraved, tiny bangle bracelet that baby wore decades ago.

Following are some jewelry ideas for kids. Some sizing suggestions are made to give an idea of what may actually be available for purchase, as well as an indication regarding what may fit children of certain ages. Also, popular kid designs include butterflies, ladybugs, hearts, peace signs, dragonflies, moons and stars, kitties, teddy bears, scottie dogs, or flowers, to name a few.

Jewelry Idea for Baby Gift14K gold 1.75 bangle bracelet. Add custom engraving to commemorate a special occasion. In addition to the enjoyable sound of jingling bells, this is a wonderful piece for a child on the move. Of course, little pearl jewelry is available in classic white and other colors. Also, freshwater pearls make a perfectly sized and pretty choice. Purchase one, two, or all three pieces for a special occasion suite. Later, bracelet and necklace may be restrung together making an adult sized necklace. Buttercup style 14K gold post settings with precious or semiprecious gemstones make sweet, youthful looking jewelry. This is a classic, everlasting gift. Bangle or cuff may feature an oval plaque for engravings. This style features large links with a plaque for a special engraving.14K yellow heart, portrait, or other charm bracelet. A classic piece that may be added to later. Again, see description under Toddler Jewelry Suggestions. Craggy Gardens to Mount Pisgah Complete Trail Guide

Craggy Gardens to Mount Pisgah Complete Trail Guide

Get ready for some fun. You have a solid ten miles of spectacular downhill into Asheville. Youll gain it back if you are cycling on to Mount Pisgah, but for now, enjoy. Pisgah National Forest spreads its lush blanket of green as far as the eye can see. The Swannanoa River Valley and the town of Black Mountain are to the east. Known as The Land of the Sky, Asheville is the quintessential city of the Blue Ridge. With a population of 160,000, it has become an urban center in its own right. Its burgeoning size warrants some careful directions on how to get around. We suggest you take one of two routes to reach the inner city. Town Mountain Road leads to downtown Asheville and two bike shops. The route through Biltmore Forest situates you best for the Biltmore Estate. A third route is best for reaching the airport. We outline each route below. Of modern design in wood and stone, the Folk Art Center sits serenely in its mountain setting. If you appreciate fine handicrafts, you will want several hours to spend here. Bring your credit card, because the artsy jewelry, hand loomed fabrics, and original pottery are expensive. The Folk Art Center also has an extensive selection of books on the southern highlands.

Chrome Hearts

Chrome Hearts 101

Chrome Hearts is a luxury biker silver and leather designer label. Founded by Richard Stark in 1989, Chrome Hearts as a brand has grown from strength to strength, moving through a small local playing area into the global arena where it successfully takes on established names such as Tiffanys in the sterling silver niche market. Today, Chrome Hearts sometimes also known as CH stores can be found largely throughout the US, Asia and Europe. Within the United States, Chrome Hearts has set up shop in Hawaii, California, New York. Beyond the Atlantic, it has established regional branches in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, the UK and France.

The Chrome Hearts Headquarters store, which just recently expanded to 7,000 square feet in floor area, sits magnificently in the epicentre of Asias top fashion capital: Tokyos Aoyama district, where Richard Starks compelling design work commands the adoration of hordes of Japanese silver fanatics, who flood its shop on a daily basis. The Chrome Hearts product line is vast and varied. Each Chrome Hearts boutique features Chrome Hearts clothing apparel, accessories, and even household peripheral and furniture.

Most notably, what remains closest to the hearts of all who love the Chrome Hearts label remains the core of its business: its sterling silver gothic jewelry line of products , alternatively known as biker jewelry.

Richard Starks History and Inspiration

As an ex odd job laborer who lived many years of a rugged lifestyle as a carpenter, leather retailer and avid motorcyclist, founder of Chrome Hearts Richard Stark was determined to mix and express the numerous ingredients of his life in developing the Chrome Hearts name. Starks jewelry is characteristically characterized by bold, powerfully daring, and often deeply anarchistic designs, such as his trademark fk you ring. Despite the gothic mood and sometimes vulgar themes, CH biker jewelry is anything but gaudy or base. On the contrary, its gothic jewelry is exceptionally intricate carefully crafted from pure sterling silver. Each design stands alone in its beauty and individuality, making each buy the start of a lasting love affair between the purchaser and the item.

Why replicas, fakes and Chrome Hearts inspired jewelry is rising in popularity

In recent times, Chrome Hearts has faced adversity from countless offshore competitors with the talent, resources ability to deliver equally intricate, beautiful and well crafted luxury gothic silver jewelry to bikers and other rock culture lovers at a tiny fraction of Chrome Hearts prices. Now, fans have a wide range of alternatives to original Chrome Hearts jewelry. Gothic silver jewelry fans are wising up to the ugly truth behind branding, which is actually no other than an illusion. Brand is not something that customers can always be expected to bear the cost for. Given the easy availability of cheaper just as intricate offerings, it is little wonder that luxury label jewelry isnt an uncommon sight on the streets notwithstanding the premium brand pricing of the original.

However, in choosing alternatives in the form of replicas or similarly styled inspired designs, it is important to understand confirm the quality of jewelry you are buying. Chrome Hearts competitors range from best grade alternatives and close replicas by bona fide jewelers to mass producing bootleggers mass manufactured low grade imitations made from base metals such as steel and copper.

Hence, Richard Starks history as an avid rider, a dexterous carpenter and leather salesman features compellingly throughout every art piece Starks brand has to offer.

Chrome Hearts Sterling Silver Biker Jewelry

Today, every CH boutique is furnished with heavily customized ebony cabinets and sterling silver accessories as a tribute to Richard Starks life as a carpenter.

Caring for Opal Jewelry

Caring for Opal Jewelry

Opal is the birthstone for October. It is also Australias national gemstone; an obvious choice given that Australia is the worlds biggest producer of the precious opal gemstone.

Opals can be a single color or display every color imaginable in one gemstone. Its because of the latter that they are likened to being natures fireworks. In an interview with Suite 101, Australias ambassador to the International Colored Gemstone Association, Damien Cody, said: Stones of equal value can express totally different personalities. Thats their beauty.

Why Wearing Opals Cares for ThemOpals contain, on average, 5 percent water. Wearing opal jewelry as often as possible provides the exposure the gem needs to both air humidity and moisture from the skin.

Protecting OpalsThe Mohs scale of mineral hardness characterizes the scratch resistance of minerals. Diamonds top the scale at 10, being the hardest known natural substance when the rating was devised in the early 19th century. Opals typically rate 6 to 7 compared to sapphire 9 or emerald 7.7. Opals therefore need protection from heavy blow and abrasive materials.

Opals also need protection from extreme sudden heat changes.

Opal jewelry should not be worn in water. Particularly keep opals away from detergents or ammonia. Drying out of the gem can cause the opal to lose its radiance. It may also causing crazing little cracks. This can render the opal worthless. If storing an opal in a safe or safety deposit box, place the gem in a sealed bag with a dampened cloth.

Always store jewels individually to avoid scratching.

Caring for Veneer OpalOpal doublet, triplets and inlays are popular and very affordable jewelry buys, particularly among tourists to Australia purchasing colorful momentos of their holidays DownUnder. They are made using very thin slivers or veneers of opal attached to a base material.

Opal Doublet, triplets and inlays should never be immersed in water. Avoid detergent too as it may weaken the glue that binds the laminate to the base.

Andean Inspired Jewelry Line

Andean Inspired Jewelry Line

I am not a jewelry type of girl. Since I had my two boys, I became a simple, less is more, outdoorsy mom type. But I have one exception to the rule: Arcano, a collection of jewelry inspired by the Spirit of the Andes.

Their gold, bronze and silver pieces, from the heart of the Andes, project the noble strength of ancient Mountain Gods.

Women would carry them for their magical powers and their energy, and wore them during their fertility rituals. When I wear an Aracano piece, I feel inspired. I become a Patagonian Queen or a Mapuche warrior. I love their simple yet elegant designs, their noble materials and the power I draw from them. Depending on my mood, I could wear a different piece every day. Theyre perfect for any outfit. The Aracano collection now ranges from home dcor, womens and mens designs. His ready to wear lines has also graced world class polo clubs, worn by polo athletes.

I met Federico Mono Alzaga back in Argentina about 12 years ago, when he was just starting his line. Now he featured in many US and European fashion magazines including Vogue!

Federico grew up in his familys ranch in Argentina. His closeness with the land, his love of horses and being constantly surrounded by the gaucho lifestyle developed his creativity. At an early age, h e learned how to make play with tools and metals. He was always attracted to the silver adornments which native women and warriors in Argentina wore. how they looked so primitive yet strikingly beautiful at the same time. His Argentine upbringing certainly contributed to his enjoyment of large and glowing metallic surfaces, as opposed to small, delicate trinkets.

Federico started his business in the US by selling bespoke pieces to private clients in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles mostly at trunk shows.

Federico says there isnt an obvious pattern connecting his customers, but they all look for elegant and statement pieces. Well traveled men and women who set their own rules absolutely adore his collections. His trademark? Silver necklaces and breastplates, long shiny cuffs, substantial rings and horsemans knives. Aracano revives the magic and strength of the Andes and its people.

Published by Consuelo Lyonnet

Jewelry Stores in Dallas, TexasBuying an engagement ring can be a little daunting task. A Worth Below

A Worth Below

How would you know if a brand of clothing line is popular? The first thing that anyone would think is the price. The worth of a branded clothing line is sometimes based on the cost of its every piece. If the brand is above $100, then that can be considered as one of the top brands of clothing lines around. But if its below $50, then its not as hot as those with heavier price tag. But the worth of a brand is not only based on its worth, but also because of what it can offer.

One of the many popular clothing lines today started to offer their brand below $50, this particular clothing brand is mudd

jeans not only because of its trend setting styles and fashionable collection of clothing lines, but also because of its cost. For $40 US dollars, anyone can avail on what Mudd can provide its devotees.

Like any normal jeans brand they come in white Khaki, black, and blue. They also have a wide variety of products other than jeans including purses, and shoes.

The Mudd brand became popular in 1995 when they introduced their affordable flare leg jean which was a popular style at the time. This hip hugger style first became popular in the 1960s and came back again in the 1980s. They got their name because they literally hug the hip. Instead of sitting on your waist, they rest on your hips. Today, the brand has expanded to include shoes, intimates, eyewear, bags, hats, and jewelry as well as a wide array of clothing products.

Because of the popularity and huge demands for the mudd

jeans, it quickly got the attention of Iconix. And in 2006 Mudd was bought by Iconix Brand Group who owns various fashion and home brands. Under new ownership Mudd has continued to expand their brand and has introduced Mudd Girls Move the World which features real girls and their stories about helping out in their community.

Mudd products are sold throughout the major areas of the United States, such as in Kohls, JC Penney, Sears, Shoe Dept., Mervyns, Famous Footwear, Bealls, Bon Ton, Carson Pirie Scott, and Stage. Mudd is also available in Panama and Mexico.

Solution for Jewelry Organization

10 Solution for Jewelry Organization

Photos: Britt Reints

Jewelry can pull an outfit together and add versatility to a basic wardrobe. It can also get mostly ignored if it isn stored in a way that makes it easy to see, select, and put away your favorite pieces. I recently decided to pull my necklaces, earrings and bracelets out of the travel box they been hiding in, hoping that I be more likely to wear and change jewelry daily.

I hit my local consignment shops in search of a picture frame or old window and found an old screen that was already framed. I bought it for $4 and added s hooks $2 a package at the hardware store and ended up with the perfect place to hang necklaces and dangly earrings.

I have quite a few necklaces, however, so I picked up a drawer front for $1 at a consignment hardware store. I attached mismatched cabinet knobs, which ranged in price from $.25 to $1 per piece, and hung the remainder of my necklaces from the knobs.

I still needed a solution for my stud earrings that couldn be hung up. I found a scrap piece of lace and cinched it into a small embroidery hoop. Presto, change o! I had a pretty place to put the rest of my earrings.

The only thing left to handle was my collection of bracelets. My girlfriend took my kids out for dinner and came home with a glass coke bottle. figured you could make it into something, she told me. Turns out, the old fashioned bottle is perfect for stacking bracelets!

Now that my accessories collection is more visible, I change my jewelry regularly.
